Programs for lower-secondary schools and secondary schools
The bee colony and its products
What treasures do bees give us, and how are they actually created? This program focuses primarily on discovering bee products, their origins, properties and uses in everyday life.
Pupils and students will learn about the life of the bee community, the individual members of the hive and their tasks. However, our main focus is on everything bees can create – honey, wax, pollen, propolis, royal jelly and bee venom. Together, we will find out how these products are created, why they are important for bees and how people use them in the food industry, folk medicine, cosmetics and beekeeping.
The program includes observing live bees in glass hives, a demonstration of beekeeping equipment and short films introducing the work of bees and beekeepers. Participants will learn about the properties of beeswax in practice, and each participant will make their own wax candle.
The program is interactive and supports teamwork and the active involvement of participants. Pupils and students will test their newly acquired knowledge in a final quiz and group activities.
Program length: 120 minutes
Admission: 150 Kč / pupil, student

The life of the bee colony
How does a perfectly organised bee community work? This program introduces the fascinating life inside a hive, the changes in the colony throughout the year and the beekeeper’s daily work.
Pupils and students will learn about the development of a bee from egg to adult, the roles of the individual members of the bee family and the ways in which bees communicate with one another. We will focus on how the hive functions as a perfectly cooperative community – from caring for the brood and queen to building comb, collecting food and defending the hive.
We will learn how the basic bee products are created and what they mean for the lives of bees and people. We will observe live bee colonies in glass hives, examine beekeeping equipment and watch short films about the life of bees.
The program is interactive and supports teamwork, observation and discovering connections in the life of the bee colony. Participants will test their newly acquired knowledge in a team quiz and group activities.
Program length: 120 minutes
Admission: 150 Kč / pupil, student

The importance of bees for our lives
Why are bees so important to people and nature? What would happen if they disappeared from the landscape? This program introduces pupils and students to the irreplaceable role of bees in nature, agriculture and our everyday lives.
The program focuses primarily on the importance of bees as pollinators and their influence on the landscape, biodiversity and our diet. Together, we will explore the connections between bees, plants and people and consider why protecting pollinators is important for the future of nature and humanity.
We will learn what threatens bees today – for example, changes to the landscape, lack of food, chemical sprays, diseases and climate change – and what each of us can do to protect them. The program also includes an introduction to the life of the bee community, a demonstration of live bees in glass hives and beekeeping equipment, and short films about the life of bees.
The program supports discussion, teamwork and ecological thinking. Participants will test their newly acquired knowledge in a team quiz and other group activities.
Program length: 120 minutes
Admission: 150 Kč / pupil, student
